Films and series about Geology and Mining:
Shall we take a look at a brief description of each one?

Capiapó, Chile. A cave-in causes the only way in and out of a mine to be sealed off, trapping 33 miners more than 700 meters below sea level. They stay in a place called a refuge and, led by Mario Sepúlveda (Antonio Banderas), have to ration the food available. At the same time, Energy Minister Laurence Golborne (Rodrigo Santoro) does his best to get the miners rescued, facing technical difficulties and the weather itself.

"The Wave" tells the story of the Geiranger fjord where geologist Kristian (Kristoffer Joner) works. In the middle of the high tourist season, a giant wave hits the place, bringing the mountain down and giving people only ten minutes to reach high ground.

Narrated by Will Smith, this National Geographic series relates the experience of ten astronauts on the International Space Station (ISS) to the formation of Planet Earth. The result is an electrifying series that brings a new point of view to the origin of life.

In this documentary, filmmaker Werner Herzog and volcanologist Clive Oppenheimer explore some of the most powerful volcanoes in the world. The duo travel to different corners of the planet, such as North Korea, Ethiopia, Iceland and the Vanuatu archipelago, talking to locals and scientists in search of a deeper understanding of these volcanoes.

A great recommendation for those who like mining and movies, Gold is based on the discovery of the largest gold deposit in Busang, Indonesia, in the mid-90s. The movie shows the day-to-day life of a mineral survey where workers search for a gold deposit. Although very informative and based on a true story, many aspects of the movie are adapted, so not all of the plot is true.
Find out more about the case that inspired the movie in our article: Bre-X case and the movie Gold: The story behind mining's biggest fraud.

The movie The Dig tells the story of British woman Edith Pretty, who hires digger Basil Brown (Ralph Fiennes) to uncover what treasures lie beneath her land on the Sutton Hoo estate near Suffolk in the UK.
The excavations began in 1939 and, as the project developed, various artifacts were found under the ground, which led to the discovery that Edith's estate housed a funerary ship approximately 1,400 years old.
In total, 263 precious objects were unearthed, including helmets with human faces, weapons, household utensils and coins. At 27.4 meters long, the vessel was the largest ever found buried in the ground and was considered one of the most important archaeological discoveries of the 20th century.

In the Brazilian drama, Juliano (Juliano Cazarré) and Joaquim (Júlio Andrade) are best friends who get excited when they learn about Serra Pelada, the world's largest open-pit mining site, located in the state of Pará. The pair decide to leave São Paulo and head for the place, dreaming of riches. But shortly after arriving, everything changes in their lives: Juliano becomes a gangster, while Joaquim leaves behind the values he has always cherished.
